Deviation from Founding Principles

We believe that the current leadership of Duxbury Beach Reservation has deviated from the DBR’s founding principles, resulting in an adversarial relationship with residents, businesses, and the Town of Duxbury.

  • In 1919 a number of Duxbury residents formed the Duxbury Beach Association and cobbled together enough money to purchase what is now the land that the Duxbury Beach reservation owns.  They did this to ensure the preservation of a beach for the enjoyment of the many instead of the wealthy few who had plans to develop the beach into a large housing development.
  • In 1975, seeing the positive tax implications and long-term benefits of putting the land into a nonprofit status,  the Association gifted the land to a newly formed 501c3 nonprofit called the Duxbury Beach Reservation.
  • The Duxbury Beach Reservation Board of Directors, Trustees and employed Executive Director have failed to uphold one of the original tenets of the Reservation: Recreation.
